China Mobile activated over 950,000 5G base stations

At the opening ceremony of the 2022 China Digital Economy Innovation and Development Conference Mr Dong Xin, General Manager of China Mobile, outlined company’s multiple achievements in various aspects of 5G. In terms of technical accomplishments, China Mobile has activated more than 950,000 5G base stations so far, providing a pervasive gigabit optic fibre coverage for over 180 million households and has constructed over 1.16 million server racks in different data centres. As for business milestones, he said China Mobile has over 500 million 5G customers, along with more than 10,000 5G commercial projects.

To ensure the completion of millions of 5G base stations by November 2022, China Mobile will accelerate 5G development to enhance quality and efficiency. Meanwhile, it is also striving to achieve comprehensive 5G coverage for all township-level divisions and above across China by the end of this year, as well as effective coverage in prominent campuses, hotspots and developing villages.

Mr Dong pointed out that China Mobile will construct eight major data centres in Guangzhou and Huizhou in the Chinese province of Guangdong with over 5,000 new server racks put into production. In order to do so, China Mobile will speed up the implementation of the “East-Data-West-Computing” plan to improve the “4+3+X” strategic layout in data centres, while also reinforcing the provision of integrated, social-level computing services equipped with ubiquitous and symbiotic computing power.
